Clinical Psychology
Mindfulness Perth is a private Clinical Psychology and counselling practice run by Penelope Lane, a Clinical Psychologist and Mindfulness Practitioner with 26 years experience.
Penelope specialises in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness Therapy.
Clinical Psychologists have 6 years University training at a Post Graduate level, and are required to have ongoing supervision and professional training to maintain their clinical registration. With this in mind, you’ll experience high quality care and expertise when you come along for sessions with Penelope at Mindfulness Perth.
1:1 sessions are available, as well as Mindfulness Group sessions, depending on your preference.
Research studies have consistently shown that the presence/behaviour of the therapist, that is, how deeply they are listening to and connecting with their client, and how much they understand and empathise with them, is the most crucial factor affecting the client’s healing process. In other words, the capacity of a therapist to be mindful of themselves and mindful of how they are relating to and connecting with their clients are key elements in how well the clients respond to therapy.
Given this, Penelope has been committed to her own mindfulness practice for over 22 years. She has explored the practice in mindfulness more deeply during the last three years, attending mindfulness/meditation retreats and conferences around the world.
Penelope creates a warm, caring, empathic, engaged, respectful, and non-judgemental mindful presence when working with her clients. This allows for the best opportunities to develop your own inner strength, and make key long-term personal changes. She has a mature sense of compassion, intuition and wisdom, with a deep understanding of what it means to live in the world we do – with it’s suffering, challenges, opportunities and joy.
Penelope has a unique ability to work out what’s really going on for her clients, and the expertise to know which treatment strategies are best suited for them. Most importantly of all, her inner flexibility as well as her honest, joyous and heart-felt approach to life means the sessions are dynamic, practical, reassuring, and quite often full of moments of laughter.
At Mindfulness Perth, the individual Clinical Psychology sessions are 50 minutes, and are held in a warm and welcoming environment where you can feel safe and supported, with no judgement. The first session is usually a “getting to know you” session where you’ll have the opportunity to share your story – your troubling experiences, and sense of the issues you’re facing.
Also, during this first session, Penelope will discuss her ideas about what might be going on for you, and possible reasons for the concerns you have. Equally importantly, those Clinical Psychology strategies which may be the most effective for you will be described.
